A little more about the activities:

Yoga

Laura will be running three Yoga sessions over the weekend each one lasting around 45 minutes to an hour long. The sessions are perfect for all levels of ability including complete beginners, and each session will be designed to suit the day, including Morning sessions to awaken the body (or warm the body if you have taken a cold water dip) and wind down sessions, designed to settle the mind and body after a busy day of activity.

Mindfulness

Tom will be introducing some Mindfulness teachings throughout the weekend, as well as some Mindfulness practices and meditations. The meditations are suitable for people who are new to meditating as well as for more practiced meditators. They will last in general between 10 - 30 minutes. There will also be an invitation to spend a small portion of each day in silence to explore Mindfulness a little deeper. There will be approximately 3 meditations during the weekend as well as other more Ad hoc opportunities to practice mindfulness during the retreat.

Cold Water Dipping

Tom and Laura will be offering a chance for a gentle dip in a natural river, being immersed in cold water for a short period is a great way to to feel refreshed and to feel good, long after the swim has finished. The session is suitable even for people who don’t feel confident in the water. If you would rather skip the session, it is no problem at all and there is plenty else to enjoy.

Walking and time in Nature

We will be taking part in some short walks as a group. The walks will be approximately 5 miles and over fairly gentle terrain. There will be time to stop and pause during the walks. Throughout the weekend there will be opportunities to spend time alone in nature.

Accommodation & Transport

There are a large number of accommodation options available for you in the local area, from luxury hotels, lovely hostels and B&Bs and Glamping and camping, and we will leave it to you to find the style that works best. We aim to be beginning each day from Youlgrave, and so if you don’t want to travel too far in the morning, then finding a place to stay close-by will be a good option.

The nearest Train station to Youlgrave is Matlock, and we will endeavour to pick you up from the station the day before and drop you off on the Sunday if you are travelling by train. If you do not have your own transport then we would ask that you look for accommodation close to or in Youlgrave so that you can get to the Village Hall on your own steam. If this is not possible, then please get in touch with us as soon as possible, so that we can help you with an alternative. There is only two of us, and so we would not be able to pick everyone up.

We will be driving to the climbing venue on the Saturday and a swimming venue on the Sunday, and will make arrangements for transport once we know who is booked and their method of transport. We can take a few people in our vehicles, and if those who have travelled by car are able to lift share then that would be most helpful.

Food

For the self catered weekend. We will factor breaks for lunch and dinner, and there is always the option to snack throughout the day. There are some shops and tea rooms nearby and there will be plenty of time to visit them at lunch. There are plenty of pubs around in the evenings.

For the catered events we have a wonderful chef who will be cooking delicious food and will cater to your needs. We will be in contact with you in advance to discuss menu choices and your food preferences. If you would prefer to provide your own food there are cooking facilities for you to use.

Accessibility & Inclusion

We will be physically active and occasionally outdoors and a few miles away from a car, toilet or civilisation. Our days will include gentle walking and some bending and stretching. All of the activities including the cold water swimming are optional.

Our days do not include: jogging, running or heavy lifting.

The nature of this retreat does mean that we will be covering wild terrain and being physically active and using our body and minds in different ways throughout the day. If you consider yourself to have a disability or you have concerns about managing certain physical aspects of this course then please get in touch with us beforehand so that we can work together to find out how we can make the weekend work optimally for you.

If you are currently experiencing mental ill health and it is impacting your day-to-day living or you are currently self harming then please get in touch with us before-hand so that we can find out if this course will be suitable for you and if there is anything we could do to help support you.

Couples, groups and friends are welcome. Please let us know beforehand.

Dogs cannot come on the course, unless it is a support dog.
